WebI no longer have access to this keyboard, so I can't experiment, but I think the magic is in holding Fn + ESC for 3 seconds and then continuing to hold Fn + ESC as you sequentially press F1, F3 and F5. If that doesn't work, perhaps try Fn + INS or Fn + DEL to switch to one of the other backlight modes.
